His surgical experience in facial trauma was attained during a 21-year military career highlighted by the acute management of ballistic and other injuries of warfare, as well as performing secondary and tertiary facial reconstructive surgery during various staff assignments at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, the National Naval Medical Center – Bethesda and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He lectures and has published extensively on the management of ballistic and high-energy transfer injuries to the craniomaxillofacial skeleton, comprehensive reconstruction techniques for facial trauma, and the use of computer-aided surgical planning and patient-specific implants for anatomic rehabilitation after catastrophic craniomaxillofacial injuries.

He serves as a Member at Large of the executive committee of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) and is a former Chairman of the Israeli Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His leadership roles have included serving as Israel Chancellor of IAOMS, Chairman of the Israel Dental Association Scientific Committee, and Chairman of the National Accreditation Committee for Dental Specialization Programs. With over 94 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, Prof. Casap has made substantial contributions to the academic field. He is a member of the editorial boards for several leading journals, including the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Quintessence International. His primary research interests include orthognathic and craniofacial surgery, navigation surgery systems, bone reconstruction, bone morphogenetic proteins, endoscopic surgery, and periosteal distraction.
